The Experience

For an unforgettable experience and must do activity in Nadi, join us at Vavavi, a unique culinary adventure that offers a deep dive into the rich traditions of this vibrant island nation.


Join us as we take you on a journey through the art of lovo cooking. You'll help us prepare the food for cooking in an earth oven, infusing it with smoky, delicious flavours. Learn about the local produce, and discover the secrets of Fijian cuisine as you prepare a traditional Fijian banquet from scratch.

What's included

Sessions start at 9:30 am and finish around 3:00 pm.


  • Welcome drink
  • Lovo set up and demonstration
  • Preparation of traditional Fijian dishes including palusami, dalo, cassava, falawa, frresh coconut milk and proteins
  • Light morning tea
  • Local guided market tour
  • Lunch and drinks included (local beers and soft drinks)
  • Kava Ceremony

 A lovo is a traditional Fijian underground oven used for cooking large communal meals.  
Become part of our vuvale (family) as you ignite the fire and carefully arrange the stones for heating. Immerse yourself in the captivating journey of the lovo process, from its very inception to its mouthwatering conclusion.

 Palusami is a traditional dish, popular in Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga. It consists of taro leaves filled with coconut cream and other seasonings, and baked until tender. At Vavavi,  you'll get to select your choice of ingredients, seasonings and protein to bake with your freshly plucked taro leaves.

Vavavi guests will master the art of coconut processing, skillfully scraping coconuts and extracting their luscious cream using the traditional and sustainable method involving natural vau bark.

 Wrapping food with natural leaves, like palm fronds and banana leaves, serves as a time-honoured culinary technique, deeply rooted in tradition. Guests at Vavavi will experience this practice to create a natural seal, trapping moisture and infusing the food with aromatic flavours during cooking.
